I have an offer to make you. I think you’ll like it.

You can grasp eternal life, health, well-being, peace, and the list goes on. All it will cost you is doing a reading plan this month with me. I know, I know, it sounds too good to be true. That’s why I put that verse in John 6 first. I didn’t make this up.

Jesus said His words are spirit and life. Luckily, we have full access to His words right in our Bibles!

We severely take the gift of living Word of God for granted.

I’d like to invite you to do it with us. There is great power that comes from the unification of the Body of Christ. Even if we go to different churches, we are all one body.

The reading begins in Matthew, chapter one. It’s the geneolgy of Jesus. I’m not going to lie to you- I almost skipped it. Actually, If I’m being completely honest, I did skip it. Then I remembered those words from John 6 about how God’s words are life. Nothing in the Bible is junk. None of it is fluff to fill the page. It’s all important and useful. So I went back. I read it. And guess what God did?

He showed me new revelation from the genealogy of Jesus. Of course He did. ‘Cause that’s why it’s in there.

“Jesse was the father of David the king. David was the father of Solomon by Bathsheba who had been the wife of Uriah.” Matthew 1:6(AMP)

Good ole’ Bathsheba. For those of you who might not know who that is, I’ll give a quick catch up.

David was King. He went out onto his balcony one night and saw beautiful Bathsheba bathing on her roof. He was overtaken by her beauty and had his servants bring her to him. He quickly found out she was already married. Married to a man named Uriah, a soldier in David’s army.

So David schemed for Uriah to be put in the frontline of battle in order to ensure that he was killed. Not a cool move. David laid with Bathsheba and she became pregnant. But later, the child died. David mourned, but he also repented. He married Bathsheba.

Ok, so now we’re all caught up.

But God wasn’t finished with David. Even though he had committed adultery and murder. God wasn’t finished with Bathsheba. Even though she had suffered great loss. The pain and sin was not the end of their stories. Because God is a God of mercy.

He used the imperfect, messed up, broken, and damaged David and Bathsheba to fulfill the lineage of Jesus, the perfect and spotless lamb of God. (1 Peter 1:19)

There was joy after sorrow. Beauty after ashes.

They had Solomon. He was very wise and sought the Lord. He was a good king. (1 Kings 4:30)

The lineage didn’t stop there though. It kept going and going. Some of the names were mentioned other places in the Bible so I looked them up and read more about the men that made up Jesus’ family. You know what I found?

They were a mess.

Just one imperfect man after another. Some of them were good men, who did dumb things. Others were bad men who did bad things. But none the less it all leads up to Jospeh.

I find this very interesting. Because while Matthew 1:1 says this is the “genealogy of Jesus the Messiah,” it is not by blood. It doesn’t tell you Mary’s family line.

Joseph was Mary’s husband and assumed the position of Father to Jesus, but by blood and flesh, he was not.

You see, God used messed up men and women. He gave them mercy, and second chances. He even allowed them to be used in the ancestry of the Messiah. But Jesus was adopted.

He was adopted into our sinful nature and a jacked up family tree. He was adopted into our mess so that we could be adopted into His glory.

“God decided in advance to adopt us into his own family by bringing us to himself through Jesus Christ. This is what he wanted to do, and it gave him great pleasure.” Ephesians 1:5(NLT)

God didn’t let the mistakes of men destroy His plan to rescue us. Just like He won’t let the mistakes of your past destroy His plan to rescue you, even now. There is no place God’s love won’t reach.

Just like David and Bathsheba were not only restored, but used by God- so can you.

No matter how broken. No matter how messy. No matter how long it’s been or how far you’ve run. The history leading up to Jesus himself is full of people making mistakes and God making a plan.

God has worked your mistakes into His blueprint for your life. He knew exactly who and where you would be when He called you. He knew every bump in the road, every wrong turn you’d take. He saw it all long ago, and chose you anyway.

Redemption is ample in Jesus.

So join me. Let’s read more about the goodness of God together in the month of March. All of this just came from lineage. Imagine the depth of revelation we get the more we read.
